BJD sweeps Municipal Elections in Bhubaneswar, Cuttack and Baripada PDF Print E-mail
After scoring a thumping victory in Bhubaneswar(BMC) in December-2008, Biju Janata Dal (BJD) swept the municipal elections in February-2009 at Baripada and most importantly Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) under the charismatic leadership of party supremo Naveen Pattanaik.

Cuttack sprung a surprise to all political observers, as the BJD not only ended BJP's rule in the CMC, but also sent it to a poor third spot. Out of the 54 wards, the BJD has secured a majority by winning 37 wards.

In Baripada, BJD won 14 out of 28 wards, while BJP finished second with 7 wards. The JMM won 4 wards, while the Congress managed to win just one seat. The independents won 2 wards.
